About Us

Our Mission

The Illinois Association of Technical Accident Investigators (IATAI) was created after several members of the Illinois State Police completed their training in traffic crash reconstruction. Seeing the need for a way to share information, experiences and grow as Accident Investigators, these founding members set four goals for the organization:

A. To provide professional standards for members investigating accidents.
B.
To promote the continued expansion of members knowledge in the area of technical accident investigation.
C.
To promote Traffic Safety through accident investigations.
D.
To promote improved capability of each agency through training and idea exchange.

Since 1986, IATAI has held annual training conferences throughout the State of Illinois. These conferences serve to bring valuable training from across the country into Illinois. Our membership reaches out to 26 states in both the public and private sector.

IATAI was a founding participating organization in the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR).

Three times each year IATAI publishes First Contact our membership newsletter. First Contact brings our membership of over 200 people news, technical articles and other reference information.
